Working as a copywriter in different industries, allows you to sample many different companies and grow an understanding of a vast array of business, which puts you in good stead for a great writing career. The experience can put you ahead of the rest, especially if you have worked with similar companies and understand what they want, their target audiences and so on.
Sometimes, despite writing blogs and content for hundreds of different people, its nice to have a break and do something completely different. You can get into a rut and your brain will only function in one way, which isn’t great for someone who is a true creative.
So, what do you do about it? How do you get out of the block? We find the best way is to set yourself a writing challenge and now is the best time to do this.
November brings to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and a fantastic site which supports you with lots of free tips and functionality, to enable you to pen that book you’ve always been thinking about.
So, what are you waiting for? Writing something completely different will get those cogs turning again. It puts your mind in a different place, it allows you to be creative in a different way, use language that may be lost in your day to day copywriting, you can be descriptive, you can be passionate, you can be emotive and all these things release the side of your creativity, that may not be seen when writing blogs or advertising copy.
I’m definitely going to be taking the NaNoWriMo challenge as I have been wanting to write a book for ages, although I’m not sure if a month will be enough, but its a great starting point.
So, grab a pen, make a coffee and pour out your heart.
